Prescriptions & Advice
Manage your repeat prescriptions, choose Tynewydd Pharmacy for electronic prescriptions and find trusted NHS information about medicines and common health conditions. If you are unsure where to start, call us or visit the pharmacy.
Your prescriptions, made simpler
NHS prescriptions are normally free when issued and dispensed in Wales. Different rules can apply to prescriptions issued by a GP practice in England. People who live in Wales but are registered with a GP practice in England may need an NHS Wales entitlement card.
Request regular medicines
Request your medicines before you are due to run out and follow the turnaround time advised by your GP practice. This is usually seven days. If you need medicine urgently, call us as soon as possible.
Use the NHS Wales App
Where supported by your GP practice, the NHS Wales App allows you to request repeat medicines and view the progress of your prescription request.
Choose Tynewydd Pharmacy
Nominate Tynewydd Pharmacy to receive your electronic prescriptions directly from your GP practice where EPS is available. Choosing a nominated pharmacy does not change how you order your repeat medicines; it changes where an approved electronic prescription is sent.
Not sure where to start?
Call us or visit the pharmacy. We can explain your options, help you understand the ordering process and arrange the most suitable prescription support.
Let us help manage your regular medicines
Tynewydd Pharmacy can request suitable regular medicines automatically at agreed intervals, helping you avoid having to place the same request each time. This service is intended for suitable regular medicines and is not normally appropriate for medicines taken only when required. Your GP practice remains responsible for approving and issuing each prescription. Ask our team whether this service may be suitable for your medicines.
Arrange your service
Speak to our team about your regular medicines and how you usually order them.
Your medicines are requested
We request your agreed regular medicines from your GP practice at the appropriate time.
Your GP practice reviews the request
Your GP practice remains responsible for approving and issuing each prescription.
We prepare your medicines
Once we receive a valid prescription, we clinically check it, order any required stock and prepare your medicines.
We let you know when they are ready
If you have opted into our SMS service, we will send you a message when your prescription is ready to collect.
Electronic prescriptions in Wales
The Electronic Prescription Service is being introduced across Wales. Where EPS is available, your GP practice can send your prescription electronically to your nominated pharmacy, so you may no longer need to collect a paper prescription. Availability currently varies between GP practices. Choosing a nominated pharmacy does not change how you order your repeat medicines; it changes where an approved electronic prescription is sent.
If you are unable to collect your medicines, call us to discuss whether free local delivery is available. Deliveries normally take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and depend on location and capacity.
More NHS care from your pharmacy
Tynewydd Pharmacy provides a growing range of NHS Wales services, many of which can be accessed without a GP referral. Availability and eligibility can vary by service, so please contact us if you are unsure.
