Ear Wax Removal in Tynewydd, Rhondda
Professional microsuction ear wax removal by trained healthcare professionals at Tynewydd Pharmacy. Safe, quick and effective — most patients notice an immediate improvement in hearing. Serving Treherbert, Treorchy and the wider Rhondda Valley.
Expert ear care close to home
Ear wax build-up is one of the most common causes of muffled hearing, earache and tinnitus. Our trained healthcare professionals use the gold-standard microsuction technique — the same method used in hospital ENT departments — to safely and effectively remove ear wax without water or syringing.
Gold-standard microsuction
Microsuction is widely regarded as the safest and most effective method of ear wax removal. No high-power water is used, making it suitable for patients with perforated eardrums or grommets.
Immediate results
Most patients notice a significant improvement in hearing immediately after treatment. Both ears can be assessed and treated in a single appointment.
Trained clinicians
Our clinicians are specifically trained in microsuction ear wax removal and use specialist equipment to examine and treat the ear canal under direct vision.
No GP referral needed
You can book directly with us. No GP referral or waiting list — appointments are usually available within a few days.
Convenient Rhondda location
Based at 59 Gwendoline Street, Tynewydd, Treherbert — easily accessible from Treorchy, Ystrad, Tonypandy and across the Rhondda Valley.
Competitive private pricing
NHS ear wax removal is no longer routinely available in most areas of Wales. Our private service is competitively priced and usually available at short notice.
Could ear wax be causing your symptoms?
Ear wax build-up can cause a range of symptoms. If you are experiencing any of the following, microsuction may help.
- Muffled or reduced hearing in one or both ears
- A feeling of fullness or pressure in the ear
- Earache or discomfort
- Tinnitus (ringing, buzzing or humming in the ear)
- Itching inside the ear canal
- Dizziness or a sensation of imbalance
If you are experiencing sudden hearing loss, severe pain, discharge or bleeding from the ear, please seek urgent medical advice from your GP or NHS 111 Wales rather than attending the pharmacy.
How to prepare
A little preparation before your appointment can make the procedure more comfortable and improve the outcome.
Use ear drops for 3–5 days
Apply olive oil or sodium bicarbonate ear drops two to three times daily for three to five days before your appointment. This softens the wax and makes removal easier and more comfortable.
Do not use cotton buds
Avoid inserting cotton buds or any other objects into the ear canal before or after treatment. Cotton buds can push wax deeper and cause further impaction.
Tell us about your ear history
Let us know if you have a history of perforated eardrum, ear surgery, grommets, ear infections or any other ear conditions. This helps us assess suitability and plan your treatment safely.
Arrive on time
Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment. Most appointments take 20–30 minutes, including the initial assessment.
Olive oil drops are available over the counter at Tynewydd Pharmacy. Ask our team for advice on which drops to use.
What to expect
Your appointment will follow a clear, structured process. We will explain each step and answer any questions before we begin.
Consultation
We will take a brief history of your symptoms, hearing and any relevant ear conditions to confirm that microsuction is appropriate for you.
Otoscope examination
We will examine both ear canals using an otoscope to assess the extent of wax build-up and check for any contraindications before proceeding.
Microsuction
Using a specialist low-pressure suction device and working under direct vision, we will gently remove the wax from the ear canal. Most patients find the procedure comfortable.
Post-procedure check
We will re-examine the ear canal to confirm that the wax has been cleared and that the eardrum is healthy.
Aftercare advice
We will provide personalised advice on preventing future wax build-up and recommend follow-up if needed.
Simple, transparent pricing
Our pricing covers the full appointment — consultation, examination, treatment and aftercare advice. There are no hidden charges.

- Recent ear surgery (within the past six weeks)
- Known or suspected cholesteatoma
